The 15th BRICS summit will be held in Durban, South Africa, in late August 2023.



BRIC collaboration began in 2006 when the foreign ministers of Brazil, Russia, India, and China met for the first time outside of the UN General Assembly. Later in April 2011, South Africa took part in the third BRICS Summit in Sanya, China, for the first time.

Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, and Osman Saleh, the foreign minister of the State of Eritrea, reportedly made the announcement on January 26 at a joint news conference in Massawa, Eritrea.

Brazil, Russia, India, and China's foreign ministers met for the first time outside of the UN General Assembly in 2006, marking the beginning of the BRIC collaboration. South Africa participated for the first time in the third BRICS Summit in Sanya, China, later in April 2011.

The declaration was purportedly made on January 26 at a joint news conference in Massawa, Eritrea, by Osman Saleh and Sergey Lavrov, the two countries' foreign ministers.

Ministers were updated on the preparations for South Africa's Chairship of BRICS in 2023, according to a statement issued by BRICS.

Brazil, Russia, India, and China's foreign ministers offered South Africa their unwavering support for hosting the 15th BRICS summit as well as for the BRICS Chairship in 2023.

The 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly coincided with the BRICS foreign ministers' annual meeting in New York, when they expressed excitement for the upcoming Single Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations in South Africa in 2023.

The Ministers demanded that the means necessary to carry out the 2030 Agenda be mobilized in order to implement it in its three dimensions—economic, social, and environmental—in a balanced and integrated manner.

In accordance with the assertion, "The ministers welcomed the UN Secretary-convening General's of the Transforming Education Summit from September 16–19, 2022. They reiterated the BRICS nations' commitment to putting the UN Education 2030 Agenda into action, advancing educational equity and access, speeding up the development of high-quality education and training, fostering youth exchanges, enhancing the cultivation of sustainable development knowledge, and offering BRICS contributions to global governance."
